Really this is one of the most tragic incidents in the history of labour struggles in Tamil Nadu, 17 persons were killed and scores of others injured in Tirunelveli on that black friaday July 23, 1999 when armed policemen descended on a procession of striking workers of the Manjolai tea estate, brutally beat them up and chased them into the Thamiraparani river The incident, which was widely compared with the Jallianwalahbagh massacre,
