Vikram’s Deivathirumagal wins awards at Japan Film Fesival
Actor Vikram has won one more honour for his mind-blowing performance in last year’s Deivathirumagal directed by A.L. Vijay. The film had won the national award-winning actor many awards
and in the instant case, it has been selected as the ‘best film’ in two
categories at the International Film Festival being held in Osaka,
Japan.
Deivathirumagal was a poignant story of a mentally challenged father and his 6-year old daughter as the father wages a lone battle in vain to win the custody of his daughter. Vikram had played to perfection the role of the mentally challenged person and had brought out vividly the agony, grief and helplessness these persons undergo in society on a daily basis.
Others who had played prominent characters in the film include Anushka (who had played an advocate), Amala Paul, Santhanam and Baby Sara. The film was produced by Mohan Natarajan in association with UTV Motion Pictures. It may be noted that the film had already taken part in some film festivals across the globe and won accolades.
The Osaka International Film Festival is widely considered as one of the most important festivals of its kind held in the Asian continent. As such, winning an award at the prestigious event is indeed a great honour for a Tamil film. Deivathirumagal was screened at the festival with the title God’s Own Child and with English sub-titles.
Vikram and Vijay had been to Osaka to personally receive the twin awards for the film under the ‘Grand Prix’ as well as the ‘best entertainer’ catgories.
